Hydrogen Sulfide

The Tijuana River carries untreated sewage and industrial wastewater. As this waste breaks down, it creates a toxic gas called Hydrogen Sulfide (Hâ‚‚S). It smells like rotten eggs and can cause health issues.

Odor Reporting

Help track air quality issues in your community by reporting bad smells to San Diego Air Pollution Control District (APCD) odor tool. Your input can help identify problem areas and track pollution.

Contact the APCD 24hr complaint hotline by phone at (858) 585-2650 or email at acpdcomp@sdapcd.org

Track River Flow

See the river flow levels in real-time with the IBWC Tijuana River Flow Gauge provided by the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Sewage Crisis Environmental Dashboard

This dashboard and mapping tool provide information from multiple sources about the air and beach/river water quality in San Diego related to this issue.

Air Purifier Program

Apply for the Air Improvement Relief Effort Program and see if you are eligible to recieve a free portable air filter.
